Welcome to my personal portfolio! Below you will find examples of my work in a variety of different media. If you are primarily interested in my architectural drafting, please read this portfolio from top to bottom. If, however, you are more interested in examples of my design aesthetic, please read from bottom to top. If you have somehow stumbled across this portfolio without context, you should know that i am currently seeking employment in a position which will allow me to complete my IDP requirements.

Michigan Brewing Company/Fenton Fire Hall
The original construction here is likely an Elial Saarinen building. The Fenton Fire Department vacated the space several years ago and it has recently been purchased by Michigan Brewing Company. In order to bring the space up to code for a restaurant, Ron and Roman Architects et al has designed a stair and an elevator addition to the rear, which is to be connected by a balcony. I provided all field verification of dimensions for the project and created CAD details for the additions per the architect's direction. These are 24x36 drawings, so the line quality is very difficult to read on a monitor. While i recognize that this makes their presentation somewhat lacking, i feel it is preferable to leave the drawings at full detail because the purpose of this portfolio is to demonstrate my understanding of architectural systems. This is an ongoing project for a restaurant remodel in downtown Northville, MI. The original structure is a fantastic 1950s style garage which is becoming an upscale burger joint. Click on the images for a higher resolution version. Conceptual design and survey of these plans provided by others.

Griffin Claw Brewery
I worked closely on this project with the engineers that provided the site survey portion of the following drawing. While the floor plan aspect of this project was more technically absorbing, i would like to highlight the logo design i created for the brewery. My goal for the logo was to create an icon which would be immediately recognizable for use on the bottle labels as well as signage and merchandise.

Stapler
Plenty of architecture students neglect to learn constructed drawing techniques, which is a shame, because those are the fundamentals on which AutoCAD is based. This was an attempt to document the different ways in which a stapler can be manipulated.

Rotoscoping
These were created as a personal project during a design course in which the discussion centered on the influence of "the medium" on "the idea". CAD and other digital modeling programs tend to be the most guilty of this, but in this example i exploited the limitations of Photoshop (left) and MSPaint (right). Both of these are digital photographs over which i painted the apparent color in intentionally wide brushes, a technique used in Richard Linklater's films such as Waking Life and A Scanner Darkly. In those films, the rotoscope interpolates frames between two such stills to create an animation. These capture an otherworldly sort of realism despite the lack of fidelity and is especially apparent in these images on the body of the cello.
Sierpinski Pyramid
This was an experiment to explore the modeling capabilities of a 3d starch printer. Shown here is a partial Sierpinski pyramid -- a perfect model would have insufficient substance or points of connection. This model was originally constructed in Rhinoceros.
Duo Sign
The interesting challenge of this project was to render an image exactly as specified by the technical drawings provided to our sign contractor. The extruded letters in chrome are LED backlit -- a translucent white acrylic halfway deep in the letters hides the lighting from view.
